Europe faces mounting crisis demanding responsible analysis, constructive dialogue and action. War Room Content responds by merging think tank methodologies with writers' rooms, creating collaborative clusters where European creative talent works alongside investigative journalists, scientists, and civil society to craft internationally appealing stories that address contemporary challenges through personal, relatable narratives.
Discover →OCCRP-affiliated investigative journalists from across Europe research and identify the stories that matter — corruption, extremism, democratic erosion.
Psychologists, radicalization experts, and scientists from institutions like Gothenburg University's Segerstedt Institute decode the human dimensions.
Award-winning writers and showrunners transform research into compelling multi-platform narratives — drama, documentary, graphic novels, games.
Through a pan-European network of broadcasters and producers, stories reach audiences across borders with local resonance and international appeal.
We are looking for distribution partners, financiers, communicators, people of influence to boost the impact of democratic storytelling.
Join Us →The resilience of the European project has been tested by the COVID crisis, by the Russian occupational war in Ukraine and by the dismantling of the liberal world order. Polarization, fake news and the societal fallout from climate change, is going to test Europe as a civilizing power further, which is why its anchor in human rights, dignity and freedom needs to be strengthened.
War Room Content (WRC) grew out of our own European experience: travelling, studying, working, and building lives across borders thanks to open borders and programmes like Erasmus. As screenwriters, journalists, directors and producers, we have spent our careers exploring European identity and the human condition — and we believe that work matters now more than ever.
WRC is a think tank and a writers room; a European hub of writers and show runners, experts, scientists, artists and civil society actors.
The aim of War Room Content is to create innovative artworks and European TV series with a strong local anchor and international appeal tied to the fostering of European core values. Boosted by legal, financial and packaging support, it provides talent with cutting edge specialists on topics like climate change, organized crime, disinformation, migration or social justice, but also a structure and tools to form transnational teams.
WRC will organize debates about European identity at forums across Europe, while pitching the stories developed by the writing teams to broadcasters and partners. WRC supports European projects and creates a virtuous cycle of creativity that develops diverse European voices.
WRC is set up by Dark Riviera AB, in partnership with Pavla Holcová (ICJK / OCCRP) nominated for Nobel Peace Prize 2023 as well as Jan Lauwers (NeedCompany), Finnish media company YLE, production company Sciapode, Reporters without Borders and Serial Killer.
We create content revolving around four areas crucial to ensure European integration, cooperation, and soft power:
War, peace, rule of law, organized crime, corruption, arms races, distrust, health and diseases, poverty, social and human rights, terrorism.
Disinformation, artificial intelligence, impacts of social media, media literacy across Europe, mental health.
Climate change, destruction, pollution, ecological security and diversity.
European values, migration, the role of borders, demographics, education, sexuality & genre relationship, ethnic and cultural identities, language.
Identifying a target audience is at the core of this project. By identifying the target audience, it enables us to easily adapt the medium, whether that be a documentary or a drama series, sitcom, talk show, short story series, videogames or a TikTok channel. By building a bridge between writers, scientists and civil society actors the aim is to create meaningful content with aspirational narratives, reaching those in most dire need or sharing the stories of the forgotten.
Through storytelling and various forms of media we can show that there is no one way of being European, that diversity of the experience is what connects us, and that we share a European way of life.
A project supported by Creative Europe Media Programme.
