Christer Mattsson is an associate professor and director of the Segerstedt Institute at the University of Gothenburg, and senior lecturer in pedagogy. His research focuses on how society acts to prevent people from joining movements, ideologies, or religious systems that use violence to achieve their goals. Furthermore, he examines the life trajectories of people who have joined, and in some cases, left white supremacy environments. He has a particular interest in how teaching and learning about the Holocaust is deployed as a pedagogical mean to foster democracy. Christer Mattsson is also a board member of Swedish national television SVT and of Spotify and advisor to the Swedish education administration and lobby the political world through initiatives like bringing policymakers to Auschwitz every year.
