WRITER
Victor Lauwers (born 1991) has been active in film, opera, theatre, contemporary arts and literature since 2010. As a student, he founded Kuiperskaai Collective in 2010. The collective quickly rose to the forefront of a new generation of international theatre makers in Europe. Between 2012 and the start of the COVID pandemic, Kuiperskaai produced from the bare canvas eight large-stage theatre productions. The collective was an Artist in Residence with several renowned institutions including KMSKA and P.U.L.S. He went on to write 1095, the collective’s breakthrough performance on the international scene. After the company dissolved during the pandemic, Lauwers joined Needcompany, a world-renowned avant-garde theatre company founded in 1986. There, he went on to write Billy’s Violence and Billy’s Joy. Billy’s Joy is scheduled to première at Impulstanz Festival in the summer of 2023.
