Sylvain Runberg
IP CREATOR & WRITER
Born in 1971, Sylvain grew up in Provence, these days he shares his time between France and Sweden. With a master in Political History he started his career in the publishing industry before writing graphic novels. His first book came out in 2004. He has since published 115 graphic novels with the leading francophone publishers (Dupuis, Dargaud, Le Lombard, Glénat, Futuropolis, Rue de Sèvre, Soleil, Delcourt, Hachette, Daniel Maghen). His work has been translated into 26 languages with more than 2 million books sold worldwide, including Europe, Asia, South America and USA (with DC comics, Image, IDW publishing, Titan Comics, Magnetic Press, Clover Press). Sylvain writes in many different genres: science-fiction ("Dominants", "On Mars", "Orbital", "Warship Jolly Roger"); autobiographical chronicles ("London Calling", "Cases Blanches"); political thriller ("On Est Chez Nous", "Clivages"); psychological crime stories ("Face Cachée" - 2010 international Manga Tokyo award); fantasy ("Konungar", "L’Ombre des Shinobis", "Hammerfall", "Reconquêtes"); supernatural stories ("Les Chroniques d’Under York", "Le Chant Des Runes", "Les Carnets de Darwin"); survival ("Zaroff") and urban thriller ("Sukeban Turbo").
Runberg adapted Stieg Larsson’s bestseller "Millennium: The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" (2013-2016) and wrote the exclusive original sequel "Millennium : The Girl Who Danced With Death" in 2018. He also wrote his version of "Conan the Cimmerian" by Robert E. Howard in 2020 and adapted the works of Chinese superstar science fiction author Liu Cixin ("Three Body Problem", "The Wandering Earth") and Ubisoft’s blockbuster "Watchdogs : Legion" into graphic novels. Runberg is currently adapting into comics Franck Thilliez, France’s most popular crime author, and collaborating with Marc Levy, another famous French writer on a new original graphic novel series and now adapting into a graphic novel the Mats Stranberg novel’s “Blood Cruise”.
Runberg has also developed several TV series including "Cryptid", a 10-episode horror/thriller released on Viaplay in 2020, produced by Dramacorps, selected in Competition at Cannes Series. He is currently working with French TV and Film producer Same Player on two TV series projects. His comic book series Orbital is being adapted into an animated TV series, and Warship Jolly Roger into an videogame by Proxima Studio founded by Harvey Newman.
He is currently working on several other TV series, video games and comic book projects, to be released, in France, Europe, USA and China, including new original projects and well established IPs, to be revealed...
